iOS Calendar Time to Leave Notification Over-estimates Travel Time

When I receive a time to leave notification on my iPhone for an upcoming appointment, the expected travel time is way longer than the actual travel time. When I open the notification, the travel time correct to the actual travel time but I don't know why the initial estimate is so off. Can anyone advise?

dsjdsj,

To clarify a few points and narrow this down a bit, does this happen with all locations and events? If you delete an event and re-create it, does the same thing happen?

Also, does it happen when you're in different locations yourself? Knowing this might help work out if the approximate location could be a factor.

Also, which iOS version are you using? Ensuring you're on the most current iOS release is useful in ruling out general software causes, so we recommend backing up and updating to iOS 15.6.1 if you haven't already: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch wirelessly

  1. Back up your device using iCloud or your computer.
  2. Plug your device into power and connect to the internet with Wi-Fi.
  3. Go to Settings > General, then tap Software Update.
  4. If you see two software update options available, choose the one that you want to install.
  5. The Settings app on iPhone showing options to update to iOS 14.8 or iOS 15.
  6. Tap Install Now. If you see Download and Install instead, tap it to download the update, enter your passcode, then tap Install Now. If you don't know your passcode, learn what to do."

Let us know if updating helps or if you've already updated, and the answers to the questions above, and we'll continue from here.

Take care.

Hi Gena.

Thanks for your reply. It took some time to confirm the data to answer your questions.

Does this happen with all locations, or just certain ones?

It happens for all locations and whether I am at home or away.

If you just look up a location (without having an event for it) in Maps, are the travel time estimates correct there?

Yes the travel estimates are correct in Maps.

If you delete and recreate the event, does that change the travel time estimate?

No. I have created new appointments and still does the same thing.

What I think is happening is that it is giving an estimate for the time to WALK even though it's set for Driving. Otherwise, I don't understand why it is lengthening the travel time so much.

I tried your other recommendations but it hasn't corrected. What do you think?

Hello, dsjdsj.

That's definitely odd behavior. There are a few things to check that might help to narrow down the source of this. Does this happen with all locations, or just certain ones? If you just look up a location (without having an event for it) in Maps, are the travel time estimates correct there? If you delete and recreate the event, does that change the travel time estimate?

In addition, as with all unexpected iPhone behavior, try taking the following steps which may help with this: restart your iPhone, make sure it is up to date, close the Calendar and Map apps, then reopen them and make sure all apps are updated.

    1. Restart your iPhone
    2. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    3. Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch
    4. How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue. Thanks and have a fabulous day!
