Migration assistant issue with encrypted TM backup

I was migrating a time machine backup from an encrypted backupbundle (in that format due to the previous Mac's use of a shared network drive as the destination) to a new 24" M1 iMac. I attached the external drive with the TM backup volume and the Migration Assistant recognized the TM backup file and presented the image of the previous iMac as a candidate to migrate from. So far, so good.

When I selected that iMac backup in the Migration Assistant dialog, it popped up a dialog prompting for the encryption password. However, it would not accept the (correct) password and continue.

I worked around this by booting up the new iMac and opening the TM backupbundle in the Finder, whereupon it asked for the encryption password, accepted it, and displayed the contents of the backup. Then I ran Migration Assistant again and it accepted the selection of the backupbundle and happily and successfully did the migration.

So there is some bug in Migration Assistant that won't accept the correct encryption password for a TM backup in that format.
