Recently I solved this case so I am posting this.
I met the error 4042 during DFU of my iPhone. I tried changing cables more than 5 times and nothing happened. So this error might not arise from faulty cables. I tried reinstalling iTunes but nothing changed again.
I reinstalled my PC and the problem was solved. So maybe try formatting.
