Cursor problems with MacBook M2 chip

After idle for a few hours the cursor will not work with a mouse-it worked flawlessly before the break. Sometimes the trackpad will work but not always. I've tried a wireless mouse and it was not recognized. I tried a mouse with a USB Nano receiver-that doesn't work either. In short, after on for a while and then off for an hour, the cursor on this brand new, out-of-the-box M2 chip is useless.

Hi there roroco1,

We'd like to clarify the issue to see how we can help. Is the curse for your trackpad not appearing on the screen at all? Does this happen when only using the built-in trackpad with no accessories connected to your Mac?

Next, let's check your settings:

If the pointer doesn’t move when you use the trackpad on your Mac notebook computer, make sure you’re using only one finger on the trackpad. Depending on the type of Mac notebook computer you have and the options you set in Trackpad preferences, using more than one finger on the trackpad may not move the pointer.
To see the options, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Trackpad , then click Point & Click.

Learn more here: If the pointer doesn’t move when using the trackpad with Mac

We'd also suggest ensuring your Mac is updated to the latest macOS version, which is macOS Monterey 12.5. This link provides more information about updating your Mac: Update macOS on Mac

Thanks!
