Can't install latest iTunes 12.8

All the help forums for my specific issues (long story) say to install the latest iTunes. My iTunes says that I have version 1.2.5.7 which is really confusing. Because the copyright on it dates 2019-2022. But the most up-to-date version of iTunes is 12.8. I tried to download and install iTunes 12.8 using this link: Download iTunes 12.8.3 for Mac

And it won't let me install it because my version of macOS is too recent. That's right. It won't install unless the macOS version is 10.11.4.

Ah right, I hadn't read your original post correctly and mistakenly thought you needed a slightly older version of iTunes rather than help adjusting to the Music/TV/Podcasts/Books/Finder paradigm. What is the functionality you think is missing in the Music app? Manual device management is certainly less effective, but syncing selected content is arguably just as easy and has significant benefits. What functionality do you think is only available with a subscription, that wasn't the same with iTunes?

I alluded to this earlier. Manual management with Music is less flexible, you cannot access playlists on the device, play the content from it, or edit metadata. The workaround is to sync with selected playlists from iTunes. If needs be put all the playlists you're going to sync to a device inside a playlist folder. That way you'll always know what is scheduled to go onto your device. You make changes in your library and sync them to the device when you're ready, rather than manipulating a connected device, but that doesn't require more work, is just as flexible, if not more so, and means it is really easy to restore the selection to a restored or replacement device.

Ah well, I wouldn't have started from there, which is another reason I recommend that people sync their devices from their libraries and keep backups to assist with the transition to a new computer. If these playlists were in iTunes and you have access to the iTunes Library.itl file it should be possible to revisit your migration to Music. Failing that there is third party software that can be used to extract media and playlists from a device, but the easiest method may be a temporary (trial if possible) subscription to Apple Music where you merge the content of the device with the cloud library, then enable sync library in Music, such that your media and playlists transfer to the library through the cloud. You can download any tracks that were uploaded from the iPhone, then turn off sync library and cancel the subscription.
