Copy & paste, editing messages in whatsapp

I can’t copy and paste messages in whatsapp. Anyone else having the same problem? Despite longpress or tapping the conversation window many times it doesn’t respond. Is this an apple bug or a whatsapp application bug? Terribly disappointed w the state of this tech nowadays.
