Auto delete old convos; does this delete attachments?

I have the age old issue of running out of storage space on my iPhone. I would like to select the option to automatically "delete text messages over 1 year old".

Does this also delete old attachments as well? I assume so, but would like any other opinions/answers. I was prepared to go through and save any photos people have sent me in the past if they mean anything, but wanted to make sure I need to do that.
