So I live in rural area without cel service, but I have decent home WiFi service, and can use WiFi calling. So based on that, can I track an AirTag using only WiFi? Let's assume my luggage, with an AirTag has gone missing and the airline is working on getting it back to me, and I'm at home. Can I track the AirTag when I'm not in cel range with my phone? Airtags use Bluetooth.
They basically act as a beacon on Bluetooth, reporting their location to nearby iOS devices.
To track the location if they are not within 30' of you, you will need a network connection to connect to the find my servers.
As long as your wifi network is connected to the internet, you are fine.
Your phone will need Wifi to be able to track the airtag.
