When I finish a book and select remove download, I don’t get an error message but the book stays downloaded. It doesn’t happen to every book but there are four or five books so far that refuse to be removed. I’m not trying to delete them permanently, just remove the download

You can also go to Amazon.com (on your browser) > Accounts & Lists > Content and devices. From there, you can see the status of each individual book. You can also re-download many books at one time by selecting them from the list, then tapping the Deliver to Device button. This is so much easier than doing it one at a time.

Please check the view in the Kindle app. It sounds like you may be in the All Books view. At the bottom of the page, select Library > Downloaded. The books you removed should not be visible there.

Given that it takes less than a minute to download a book and you don't have to download them all at once, it should really not be terribly onerous. Just download the ones you're reading right now and download others as you decide to open them.

Try deleting the app and re-installing. The Kindle app for iOS has been pretty flakey lately.
Yeah I was afraid I’d have to do that. So many books to redownload. I usually have between 20-40 books at a time
