Hi, my daughter will be using her dad’s old phone but when I attempted to add her gmail account it isn’t working.

Check iPhone type & iOS version -> Go to: Settings -> General -> About.
If it is an iPhone 6 -> iOS 12.5.5 is the last security updates for iPhone 6, -> released 23 september 2021.
If it is an iPhone 6S you can update the iPhone to iOS 15.6, see this Apple article:

I understood from your profile in your original post that you had an iPhone 6. If you do have an iPhone 6s, that model can be updated to iOS 15.6.
