iCloud is an interactive service and reflects "in the cloud" what you do locally. It is therefore not an autonomous long term backup solution. Backups should preserve data over time, iCloud doesn't do that ... it changes.


Time Machine is the Apple supplied backup app and its output should go to a dedicated external drive.
