Mac Numbers: How to count selected rows

How can I count the number of rows I've selected in Mac Numbers? I don't want to add a formula on the sheet that I would have to keep modifying anyway; I just want to be able to select a span of rows -- or rows selected independently -- and see the total number of rows.

I checked the bottom of the spreadsheet that provides SUM, AVERAGE, MIN, MAX, etc. but none of the options in the cog wheel settings offers something like a simple selected row count.

Is there a way to do this without having to use a formula? I have large spreadsheets and often (almost daily) have to select and count rows for a variety of reasons.

Thank you in advance for your help!

If in each row you select a non-blank cell instead of choosing the entire row, the COUNTA function at the bottom will tell you how many rows were selected. All data and formulas count as non-blank, even if the formula result is the null string "" and looks blank.
