iPod disabled

I was given an iPod and do not have the passcode. Is it possible to access the iPod or erase all contents and start from fresh?

Did you try to force restart it and connect it to iTunes on your computer to restore it?

I have tried so many codes that it is now disabled. It's obviously not registered on my iTunes so wont connect to my Mac. It was given to me and the original owner now lives in another country.
