Touch ID is missing from my system preferences.

Touch ID is missing from my system preferences. Touch ID stopped working and when I updated to 12.5 and tried to delete old finger print and add a new one, the Touch ID preferences option disappeared. It is an M1 mac (orange in the CLick and CLack tradition). Very frustrating and have found no good answers on the interweb

Try this.

Shut down
Restart in safe mode
Do a normal restart
Check preferences
