Pause uploads from Mac to iCloud drive

How do I pause uploading files from my Macbook to my iCloud drive? I have low speed internet and want to make file transfers at night or when I'm not at home.

How to stop upload of one file to iCloud My internet connection is very bad these days (provider working to fix it) but I need to upload one 750 mb file (a compressed folder) to Google Drive for a client. How can I stop the automatic upload of the same file to iCloud? The upload to GD would be a lot faster if I could just turn off iCloud upload of that same zip file. And I don't want to turn it off in the settings because it says it'll remove everything stored on my Mac. (which is pretty illogical to begin with). Thanks in advance!

icloud upload I am on Hughesnet with limited data and these daily uploads to icloud burn through all of my monthly data allowance within just a few days. Is there any way to pause these uploads without losing all the info from my macbook? I go into town periodically and can then sync with icloud. I see how to STOP the icloud from uploading documents but then it warns me that it will remove the documents from my desktop??
