I am having trouble logging into my MacBook Air

Hi….I am having trouble logging into my MacBook. I am trying to make a new password, but receive a “not connected to the internet” message. I have no way of connecting to my internet! I have no bar on my screen

You don't need to be connected to the internet to change your local password: System Preferences > User & Groups > Change Password.

For the Apple ID password, you need the internet. If not available, you can't make the change. That can happen when your ISP is down, the Apple server is down or overloaded or any of dozens of other problems that plague the internet. You have to wait for things to clear, or if you have no ISP you'll need to buy into one.
