I just want to type a letter. Can't open my version of Microsoft Word.

I just want to type a letter. Can't open my version of Microsoft Word. Should I delete this app and download Apple's word processing app. If I do, will I loose past documents?

You didn't say what happens when you try to open Word. I think that you may have an older version that is not compatible with your Mac's operating system. Try updating Word. There may be a cost to do so. If you want to use Apple's word processing app, Pages, you can do so. It is already installed in your Mac. (It is installed as part of the computer's operating system and cannot be removed.) Pages can open Word documents and can save as Word documents if desired.
