iPhone 11 Pro Photos Not Syncing to 2020 MacBook Pro (Monterey)

I can't figure out how to get the photos from my iPhone to my MacBook Pro. Surely I must have a setting wrong for syncing the two. What's the Picture folder in the sidebar if not for photos? I'm confused-somebody help a Boomer out.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 12.4

(By the way, I use iCloud Photos and have all my photos on my iPhone, iPad and Mac using that method.)
