Hi when I used to select a jpeg on my Mac I used to get an instant small preview on the right hand side
but now all I get is an “icon of a sea view an upside down glass” But no preview even when I select the different tabs at the top of the page
anyone?

Is the folder view options set to show icon preview?
If it is, and it still doesn't show them, did you try booting into Safe Mode as suggested previously? It clears some system caches which might be interfering with the preview.
Hi the pic below shows what I see now even when I select at the top of the page I don't see the photo preview.
even with jpeg sitting on the desktop I see the same icon
try a detour to safe boot
