My AirPods won’t connect, I’ll press and hold the button, it’ll flash white and amber, but nothing pops up on my phone

I followed If your AirPods won't connect - Apple Support and How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support but they still are not connecting to my iPhone. When I open the case with the AirPods inside then the light flashes white but it will not pop up when next to my phone. They were connected to my phone before and they've only been associated with my Apple ID. They do not appear as a device in Find My and they are not a Known Device in Bluetooth. The AirPods and case are fully charged and I have up to date software.
Update: After waiting for a few hours I retried again and my iPhone recognized the AirPods. I was able to get them to connect.
