Latest upgrade to Monterrey; ok for 2014 Mac Mini and HP laserjet 200?

Should I upgrade my 2014 Mac Mini to the latest Monterey-12.4? Doesn't seem to offer anything that would be useful to me and I would hate to lose something like printer compatibility.

Mac mini, macOS 10.13

Hi,

Regarding the printer, would this be one of the following models?

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276n
  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 Color MFP M276nw

If so, it is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as an AirPrint printer. An AirPrint model is compatible with macOS, and could be used without additional drivers, provided that the computer and the printer are connected to the same network. Are you using AirPrint with your existing operating system version?

If not, please post back with the exact printer model (including any suffix).

Thank you.

An HP LaserJet Pro color M251nw is listed in About AirPrint - Apple Support as well.

Yes, you do not necessarily need a wireless printer connection for AirPrint. AirPrint works with both wired (Ethernet) and wireless (Wi-Fi) network connections. The M251nw has Ethernet, so you could choose to wire the printer to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router instead. I assume that the cable you mentioned is Ethernet.

You could also use an iPhone/iPad for AirPrint printing via the Wi-Fi router.

The printer can be connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet (to the Wi-Fi router).

The Mac mini can use Wi-Fi or Ethernet to the router.

The printer and the computer must be connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router).

If there is a problem with AirPrint discovery for one or more devices, and if all settings are correct, you may want to try the following full procedure (in the exact order):

Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Mac mini, and all other devices/computers. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the router. Wait two to three minutes. Power on the printer. Wait a minute or two. Power on the Mac mini. Finally, power on all other devices/computers.
