I deleted a text (accidentally) and need to get it back

I tried shaking my phone and checked iMessages on my iMac. Gone. I deleted shortly after the text had arrived so am not sure it was even backed up. HELP PLEASE!

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.4

go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud and check the switch position for Messages

If the switch is ON, then you cannot recover your deleted messages and they are not contained in an iPhone backup

(no need to read any further)

If the switch is OFF, then you might be able to recover your messages IF you have an iPhone backup that contains the messages you are trying to recover. In which case you'd need to restore your iPhone to that backup. In doing so, you'd likely lose some data between now and whenever your backup occurred.

I wouldn't have any way of knowing if the person on the other end still has the texts you sent, but I think it sounds like a pretty safe bet. You could have them copy/paste and send back to you.. or they could take a screenshot and send to you

(if you're asking if deleting the text on your phone deletes the text on their phone, the answer is no)
