MacBook Air M2 unable to receive/send text messages from Android devices.

I am setting up my new MacBook Air (M2). I can only send and receive text messages from apple devices. When I text a contact with an android phone, it won't send. I am signed into my new Air with the same Apple ID as I have on my phone (and I see that I need to be sure the Message Forwarding on my phone is set to my new computer). My phone does not have a Messaging Forwarding option. I am running 15.6 iOS. Any suggestions.

Thank you for your reply, John. I have an iPhone 13 Pro, which is running iOS 15.6. Since I posted this email, I have resolved the problem. The Text Message Forwarding function did not appear in the message settings on my iPhone. This setting has a list of Apple computers and other devices (such as an iPads) that use your Apple ID. By checking each device, your messages will appear on those checked devices. I rebooted my phone and the Text Message Forwarding function appeared. I found this solution in a discussion thread. Thank you for reaching out and trying to help. I am glad I was able to get this resolved.
