i Tunes & iPod classic

I am running W10 Pro (latest update) and iTunes 12.12.4.1

I have 2 iPod classics 80Gb & 160Gb, 1 of them is permenantly in my car.

When I connect the iPods to the PC, they open as an external drive, but iTunes does not see

either of them as a device, so I cannot sync my latest purchases.

Has Apple stopped iTunes from supporting iPod classics?

Is there anything official from Apple?

No, and no.

Have you installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store? You may find compatibility with iPod classic is better when you use the old school installer you get from this link: https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/win64. If a feature doesn't work as expected it may sometimes help to revert to previous build.
