Apple Watch Pairing Issue

Hello! I received an Apple Watch Series 3 today and have been trying to connected it. Every time I get it paired, it pops up saying the watch needs a software update to continue setting up. However, it then states “to update the software on your Apple Watch, you first need to update the software on your iPhone.” My iPhone is to the latest update!!! Help!

How to update a new unpaired watch? I bought a new SE Apple Watch and tried to pair it to my iPhone. I was unable to pair as I got a message stating the watch needed to update software. How can I update before pairing?

Restart your paired iPhone.

Try to start the update again.

Try the Update directly on your Apple Watch:

Make sure that your watch is connected to Wi-Fi.
On your watch, open the Settings app.
Tap General > Software Update.

Thank you for your response! I have tried that and I cannot open the Apple Watch or the settings since I technically haven’t finished setting it up.
