software update not downloading
Clicking on the install button doesn't seem to work
iMac, OS X 10.11

If you refer to Related Article -> If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch , and clicked Install then you are fine.
You hardly noticed the update, it only took about 3 to 4 minutes.
If you now connect the iPhone to your iMac again, that message will no longer appear, the iMac recognize your iOS device.
