Suddenly, my Time Machine will not back up because it says I only have read only permissions. When I try to change it to read and write, I am told I don’t have permission to change it. I went to my home folder and looked at my permissions and they all say read and write for all users. What am I missing here? I have an iMac running Monterey.

If it's backing up as before, you don't have a problem. If you now can't backup, erase the drive and start fresh without any user applied encryption. Just accept all they normal and customary defaults.

Time Machine drives are now always read only to everyone but Time Machine. And, you can’t alter the permissions.

Interesting. But now my Time Machine won't back up because it says I don't have permission. Do you know how I get it to back up?
I’d start over.
Is the drive encrypted? Perhaps it has lost the password for that.
That is the actual message. There's a notification saying it hadn't backed up. The drive is encrypted. Maybe that's the issue. I'll look into that. Thanks!
I have the same problem, but my drive is not encrypted. This only started happening today..
