Can a macbook pro from 2008 (OS 10.8.5 )be upgraded to current operating systems?

If I bring it in to an Apple store, can they upgrade the operating system so I can get zoom, chrome, etc?

Back up your data, check your applications for compatibility, click here, and then on the download link for El Capitan. Beyond that, no.

Going to an Apple Store won't enable it to be upgraded past what you can do yourself.
