How to disable File Provider?

macOS 12.1 apparently provides native support for accessing cloud-based file systems through a feature called File Provider (Apple Developer Documentation).

This has broken my workflow when backing up my data to Google Drive.

File Provider uses a local folder to store the cloud data rather than uploading it directly. This is causing my local HD to become full. These files are intending to go to Google Drive, but are actually being stored in ~/User/Library/CloudStorage/

How can I disable File Provider to have my Google Drive behave as it used to; as a connected Volume?

Mac Pro, macOS 12.4
