Dictation on Macbook suddenly deletes portions of text

Has anyone experienced whole sentences being deleted from dictated sentences in the middle of speaking?

Hello, Reese954.

Dictation is such a handy feature, so we'd love to help. To start off, the following articles can help with using this feature: Dictate messages and documents on Mac - Apple Support and Use Voice Control on your Mac - Apple Support.

In addition, we advise that you restart your Mac (Shut down or restart your Mac) and make sure it's fully updated (Update macOS on Mac). Once those are done, please test this issue.

If the issue persists, continue by testing to see when this behavior occurs. First, put your Mac into safe mode and test. Booting into safe mode will disable any startup and login items from automatically opening, which can help us to isolate the source of the issue further. When you do this, you’ll see some unusual behavior from the display; this is to be expected. Please follow the steps in this article: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

Next, let's see if this behavior persists in a second user account on your Mac. Please follow these steps to make a test account that can be deleted later: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.

Let us know how this goes, please. Thanks and have a fabulous day!

Reese954,

Got it. Thanks for the update.

Since the issue was not resolved following those steps, it may be helpful to see if using Voice Control instead of Keyboard Dictation helps. Follow these steps to get that set up: Control your Mac and apps using Voice Control - Apple Support

Turn on Voice Control
1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Accessibility , then click Voice Control.
2. Select Enable Voice Control.

The first time you turn on Voice Control, files for the selected language are downloaded to your Mac (you must be connected to the internet) and the feedback window appears on the desktop. When Voice Control is ready to use, the microphone icon  appears in the window and fluctuates to indicate the volume level.

You can also choose a microphone (choose Automatic to have your Mac listen to the device you’re most likely to use for speaking commands) and whether to always overlay numbers or a grid on the screen to make it easier to select items or navigate the screen.

Siri: Say: “Turn on Voice Control.”

Let us know if this helps with the way your dictated message appears and we'll continue from here.

Cheers!
