Opening protected spreadsheet with Touch ID

Recently had to migrate to repaired Mac Powerbook. I went to open old spreadsheet and while it says it should open with Touch ID, there is no place to touch. That isn't offered. Advice?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

I'm not sure I understand. If your MacBook Pro is a recent model that supports Touch ID, for Numbers you touch the same place as you do to unlock the MacBook Pro (or for other uses of Touch ID) -- the top right corner of the keyboard. See: Use Touch ID on Mac - Apple Support

If Touch ID isn't supported on your MacBook Pro, then you cannot use it to open a Numbers spreadsheet.
