What if I don't want to share purchases with my family anymore?

making my Apple ID and payment methods for iTunes and the App Store more individualized rather than shared with my family so I can have financial responsibility for my own devices and purchases, and so I'm not spending money on someone else's credit card.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.4

As a Member in a Family Sharing group, you can buy Apple gift cards and redeem them to your own account. As long as you keep a sufficient credit balance on your own Apple ID, your purchases (except for gifts) will not hit the Organizer's credit card. For details, see the section in here about "payment method":

Or, if you decide that Family Sharing just isn't meeting your needs, you can leave the group:
