Apple ID. Payment Method

I have been trying to remove the payment method associated with my Apple ID. I get a error message saying ….unable to remove…. there is an active subscription…. The only subscriptions shown on my account are inactivate ones from a previous anti virus company that I have not used for a year or two. I have deleted my account with the company - but I am still unable to remove the credit card from my Apple ID. How can I query this with Apple? Thank you.
