I did not back up my iPad and my daughter put a passcode on it. When trying it the passcode she says it is is not working, can I back up the iPad before I put it in recovery.

You're welcome! I totally understand ... but can only strongly suggest that you make periodic backups before things like this happen ... and they will.

Sorry, but no. You will not be able to back it up unless you can access it.
