Stop sharing contacts

My daughter and I have a family share, each with our own Apple ID. However, our contacts are shared. At one point, I thought I figured out how to unlink our contacts but then all of my contacts were lost. I was able to undo that, but now I don’t know how to fix this problem.

Hi Kberg11,

We'd love to assist you with managing your contacts. Are you both signed into the same Apple ID account for iCloud in Settings > Tap your name? If you are not currently, have you both ever been signed into the same Apple ID account in the past? The reason we're asking because the contacts synced from somewhere and merged with the contacts on the devices. If you were signed into the same Apple ID account in the past and the contacts synced over before you signed into separate accounts, then that means the contacts for the other person will remain on the device until you remove them manually.

More info on iCloud Contacts can be found here: Set up and use iCloud Contacts

Best regards
