Press the side button on the Apple Watch one time.
Scroll through the active apps with your finger or the digital crown.
Swipe an app from right to left and tap the large red X to close it.

in the latest apple watch update how to you close out apps you have used? normally to close out apps on apple watch series 8 you would click side and app would show up then you would slide it and click an x . can’t do that at all with the latest update . I don’t know if the apps are automatically clicked off or what? don’t want to run my battery down

Deleting apps from Apple watch Why is it not possible to delete some original Apple apps from my apple watch? I would like to delete which i don't need or use, to free up room on the already small screen. E.g. Audiobooks, Stocks, Calendar, Reminders. Or at least i would like to be able to hide them?
