SD card reader stopped working on Monterey 12.4 iMac 2015

Cannot get iMac to recognise the existence of my SD cards. Any ideas. I did get it to work once, after a reboot, but no longer does this. This has killed my workflow with Photographs

I have tried shutting down and re-starting the iMac, but the problem with the internal SD card reader persists. Is it just possible that the card reader will only work if the OS is on an internal drive? Three other external drives are present in finder, along with the SSD boot drive. SD Card reader stops working until reboot iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015) I've seen people post with the same issue and was wondering if anyone has found a fix for this issue. The card reader starts at boot up, but eventually stops recognizing cards when they're inserted until you reboot. Thanks!

My Mac will no longer read SD cards I'm using a 27" iMac running Ventura 13.4.1. I have inserted an SD card in the usual port, but find it can't be read. How can I read the card?

Try pushing a little harder to make sure that the card is fully inserted in the slot.

If that doesn't help, then get and use a corded external card reader. Personally I prefer using my corded external card reader instead of reaching around the back.

Thank you. Yep, already done the re-insert and push harder bit. And Ive ordered ( should get today) an external reader.

Maybe the port has died physically, it's had a lot of cards over the past 7 years!

This is a known issue with Monterey mostly prior to 12.4. However, certain SD cards can be an issue. My Sandisk card works fine with 12.4.

Thank you. I have external SD reader now. All my Micro cards are Sandisk and so are the Sd holders, but to no avail

External it appears to be from now onwards
