Kindle app not working on ipad

My kindle app worked just fine on my ipad. All of a sudden it is not working. Pressing kindle exits to the Home Screen. Kindle version 6.61.0.100(1.0.267663.0). I am afraid to delete the app and reinstall for fear that I will lose all the installed books. Please advise.

Update the app if an update is available.

Update iOS if an update is available.

Turn iPad off and on again.

If it doesn't work, contact Amazon.
