When I try to import photos to my Mac, the photos app stuck on "preparing to import from iPhone 12 Pro". what can I do???

Is your phone syncing with iCloud with optimise phone storage set. If so, any optimised photos (stored only in iCloud) will not be avaialable for transfer via USB.
You should either use iCloud for syncing to your mac, OR USB, but not both.

You should either use iCloud for syncing to your mac, OR USB, but not both.
If that for some reason fails, a workaround is to import with /Applications/ImageCapture.app and then import that to Photos.app.
That is my normal workflow anyway because I edit all metadata in 3rd party apps before importing to Photos.
