Backup Volumes folder won't allow a copy being moved onto new Systems folder

While copying my Hard Disk onto an HDD backup drive, the new Systems Folder will not accept my original Volumes folder and I'm getting a message stating the 'Volumes' folder can't be moved into the new Systems folder as it "cannot be moved into one of it's subfolders" . I'm recreating the my iMacs hard drive hierarchy, if that's the correct word, on my Seagate One Touch step by step. Am I missing something in the translation?

Thanks, Folks

iMac 27″, macOS 12.4

First off - and specific to Big Sur macOS 11 and Monterey macOS 12, the Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User or “ Bad Actor “ Software.

Attempting to Copy the Entire Internal Drive by conventional Methods like copy and paste will never work

Even attempting the Old Way of using Disk Utilities to create an Image file to an external Drive will not work

As was very wisely suggested by @tjk SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner software will wrk very will for this purpose

Hi back, and thank you for even taking a crack at it. Part, or most, of the problem may be that I'm not clear on what's going on either apart from the not so early warning signs of a dying hard drive. My iMacs been turning itself on even when shut down. Afraid I'm the old dog trying to keep up with new tricks. I think I'll take my iMac into the shop. And check out those recommended apps and keep wishing I'd been an early adopter.

Cheers
