Locked out of my new Macbook Air

My wife just got a new MacBook Air. She uploaded her old computer but now when she turns it on it's not recognizing her log in when it powers up. I keep typing in the password but it's not offering me any of the reset password options that apple support says should be there. It just shakes and clears the password. What do I do?
