MacBook recommendations
I want to buy a new MacBook - I will use it for word processing ( reports) quick books and internet research.
what might people recommend.

Sounds pretty basic, but one might recognize MacBook's last a long time and your user needs may grow over time.
Just about any MacBook Pro or Air will do what you say you'd be doing. RAM and Internal memory can never be increased once purchases, so make sure you buy one with enough memory as it can a costly mistake not doing so.
