AirPod pros

When I take my AirPod pros out of my ear it doesn’t disconnect to we’re I can hear the audio from my phone. Also when I open my airpod case the AirPods even though they are still charging in the case will connect to my phone. I have tried restarting my AirPods and factory resetting them and neither of those have worked, can someone help me please?
