ipad pro 9.7 wifi connectivity

It will not stay connected to Wi-Fi. Turning Wi-Fi off & on causes it to reconnect. I have reset the network settings, several times, this is also only a temporary fix. I have backed up and erased the whole iPad and the problem still comes back. Any suggestions on a next step? This has been a long term problem. My wife has an iPad Air 4th generation it has no Wi-Fi connectivity issue.

If you have a number of devices, use Private Wi-Fi addresses, see -> Use private Wi-Fi addresses on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch

If you use Private Wi-Fi addresses then you can assign the iPhone a MAC address & a Private IP address.

Log in to the router, add your iPhone NAME + iPhone MAC address  + private IP address.

Your iPhone MAC address is: go to Settings -> General -> About -> the Wi-Fi address (note this address).

Assign a private IP address to the iPhone, for example 192.168.x.xxx or 169.254.x.xxx.

This depends on the router & other iDevices that have already been added.

What is important, check the list and the last xxx must be different from the iDevices that have already been added.

Use here Private Wi-Fi addresses for 14 devices, also smart phone from other brand, tv & printer, works fine.

If they are On, turn Off Hotspot & VPN.

If your WiFi has been set-up according to Apple’s recommended settings, WiFi and Internet connection difficulties are usually an indication that your device does not have a routable IP Address - your IP Address usually being assigned by DHCP. When this occurs, your iPad may only have a self-assigned link-local IP address that begins 169.254.x.x; with a link-local address assigned, you may appear to have a WiFi connection, but you’ll not have any internet connectivity.

If you have a VPN App or profiles installed, or a security App such as Norton, these may be interfering with DHCP and preventing your device from obtaining a valid IP Address for the WiFi network to which you are attempting to connect. The resolution is usually simple; if installed, you may only need to temporarily disable or remove the Security App and/or VPN.

DHCP is the most frequent method used to [automatically] assign an IP Address to your device(s) for the network to which you are attempting to connect. Until your iPad has a valid IP Address to connect to your network, you will not have an internet connection. Disabling or removing VPN and/or the offending security App should allow DHCP to operate normally - allowing connection to your network and the internet.

If this resolves your issue, the VPN and/or security App can be reinstated after the connectivity problem has been resolved.

As an alternative to using default DHCP, you can manually set an IP Address that is appropriate for your network - however, unless you are comfortable and/or have experience with manual setup of IP networks, you might be best advised to explore other resolutions before attempting to do so. If you do choose to use this method of setting the local IPv4 Addresses, you will also need to ensure that you have used dedicated address for each device, have also set the correct Gateway/Router address and subnet mask on the device for you network (using only IP Addresses that are not included within your DHCP address-range). You will also need to consider IPv6 Addresses - this perhaps being beyond the immediate capabilities of the inexperienced.

While local IPv4 networks often use IPv4 addresses in the 192.168.x.x/16 address range, not all will do so.

Also be aware that 169.254.x.x/16 addresses (assigned by APIPA/Auto-IP) are link-local addresses only. These addresses are sometimes automatically assigned by the client device when DHCP fails. Any IP address assigned in this address-range is not routable - and will have no internet connectivity.
