my macbook isnt updating

I had an issue with updating my MacBook; every time I tried to update the screen froze and stayed still for a while.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

Try to boot into safe mode How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

and run the update from there. Most of the time, it will be working then
