Camera comes on by itself

My XR iPhone camera turns on by itself. I can be reading email or any number of things and all of a sudden the camera comes on.

That is definitely not normal behavior. First try turning the iPhone off and back on again. If that does not help, then try a Force Restart. Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

If that does not help, the next two steps would be to create a backup of the iPhone and restore to that backup and test. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If that does not work, the next step would be to restore the device to factory and set it up as new, not from a backup. Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support
