External drive not in the finder

Despite having external disks checked in the Finder Preferences my drive will not show up, cannot see it when using email, and is not in the finder. However, it is on the Desktop and Disk Utility sees it.

Troubleshooting Disks in Finder:

Four Thoughts:

A. Refresh Finder:

  1. Go To: Apple menu
  2. Select: Force Quit...
  3. Select: Finder
  4. Click: Refresh button

B. Restart the Mac:

Being up-to-date, see if restarting if makes it work as it should.

C. Boot in Safe Mode:

[Hold Down the shift key upon boot]. In Safe Mode, login items do not open at login, certain System Preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are fixed. Wait for 30 seconds, and then boot up normally.  See if all is fixed.

D. Re-Mount the Drive in Recovery Mode:

Boot into Recovery Mode (Intel or Silicon) . Then, using Disk Utility, see if the Hard Drive is seem. If it is, then see if you need to click the “Mount’ button for it. Try rebooting once more. If of no success, then click unmount button, and then the mount button. Try rebooting once more, logging in, seeing if it works.
