Syncing iPod from Mac

I’m trying to sync just one new album that is in my music library on my Mac. My iPod has used approx half of the available 16gb of storage. Each time I try to sync this album it tries to re-sync my entire library again, even when i check the box to sync only selected items. Every time I try if get an error stating there is not enough space remaining on the iPod. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks

iTunes/Finder can, on occasion, become confused about what is and isn't already on the device and get the space calculation wrong. The solution is to restore and then reload the device. If there is content on it not in the local library see Recover media from an iPod - Apple Community.
