How do I turn off time machine

ok thank you so must. mow the other issue is im using 12.3.1os(recently downloaed}im using external hard drives.once the computer is booted my ext drives automatically turn into time machine backup drive which i dont want.im using mpc software and when i try to pull tracks that icreated from the ext drive it gives a error message that the file cant be loaded
