Change owner without resetting

My friends husband died and she has asked my help to change appleID on their iPad without having to reset.

They both used an e-mail @icloud.com. My friend has an iPhone and wants to have a connection to the iPad. In order to do so, she will need to have ownership of the iPad with her appleID.

Is this possible?
